SPLASH AND DASH

SPLASH'N DASH

The YMCA’s Splash & Dash is a multi-sport event for the youngest athletes in your family. Children ages 5-12 experience a two stage event (swim and run) with distances based on their age and capability. It’s a timed event, but there are no awards for winning a heat or an age category; just an opportunity to build confidence, experience a feeling of accomplishment, and create stronger family bond as they’re supported and encouraged from the edge of the pool or sidewalk.

DETAILS

The Splash ‘n Dash will take place on Sunday, June 8 as part of the much larger Spring Classic Sprint Triathlon after the swim portion is completed. Check-in, will begin at 9:15 am with the first age group starting at 10 am. The entire event is safely contained on the YMCA property using the outdoor pool and outdoor running track. The age groups are in two-year increments. Children will be placed in heats of similar ages. Age groups are 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12 years. Distances for the swim are 25, 50, 75, and 100 yards respectively (25 yards is one length of the pool; 50 yards is one lap). The running lengths are not quite as exact, but they’ll run about a 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 3/4 mile, and 1 mile respectively. Everyone finishes at the same spot.

SWIM TEST

All children must pass a swim test prior to the event. Members can do this at any day or time prior by requesting an opportunity with the lifeguard during each hour’s pool break. Those who have already passed the test this year do not need to take it again. Non-members can take the test prior to the start of the event beginning at 9:30 am on June 8. Those passing the swim test will be given a green wristband at packet pickup on race morning. Those not passing the deep- water swim test must wear a coast guard approved vest during their swim portion. No exceptions.

EXTRAS

Besides the event itself, registered participants receive a race shirt, goodie bag, and an opportunity for their family or friends to join them for a swim at the outdoor pool on race day or other day the following week.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Camp Fitch YMCA Polar Bear Plunge

Cost should never be the reason a child cannot attend Camp Fitch YMCA. To turn that mission into reality, Camp Fitch has hosted their annual Polar Bear Plunge for the last 15 years! Staff, alumni, campers, and anyone else who wants to join the cause jump into the icy waters of Lake Erie with the same purpose: to give the life-changing opportunity of camp to kids who would otherwise be unable to afford. All are welcome to join the fun (without any pressure to jump in Lake Erie)! We will have food, games, and raffles for everyone to participate in.

Davis Family YMCA Golf Outing

The Davis Family YMCA is committed to strengthening the foundations of our community. For 13 years we have hosted the annual golf outing, raising funds to ensure that YMCA programs and membership opportunities are accessible for all, regardless of financial means. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or trying it for the first time, this event is a hole-in-one for fun, fellowship, and community impact! Swing by for a day of golf, great company, and the chance to support the charitable work of the YMCA of Youngstown.

Central YMCA Gala

Join us for the First Annual Central Gala, where we’ll come together to celebrate the impact we’re making in our community. The theme for this year’s event, A Better Future Starts with You, will highlight the YMCA’s ongoing mission to strengthen our community through programs that promote healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility. The event will take place on September 25, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Maronite Center. Please wear your semi-formal evening attire that reflects the elegance of the occasion and the spirit of connection we nurture at the Y. This is a chance to make a lasting difference while enjoying an evening filled with hope, impact, and inspiration. We look forward to sharing this experience with you!
