A “CIT ACA Accredited Program” refers to a “Counselor-in-Training” program at a summer camp that has earned accreditation from the American Camp Association (ACA). This means the camp has undergone a thorough review to ensure high standards in staff training, camper safety, and program quality. ACA accreditation makes the CIT program a trusted pathway for aspiring camp counselors to develop leadership skills and gain hands-on experience while adhering to industry standards.
Youth who would thrive as counselors-in-training at the Davis Family YMCA summer camp are those who demonstrate strong leadership skills, a positive attitude, and a genuine passion for working with children. They should have excellent communication skills, patience, creativity, and adaptability. Additionally, they must be responsible, enthusiastic about outdoor activities, and able to manage a group of kids from diverse backgrounds in various situations. A willingness to learn new things is also key.
All CIT’s will be required to read, agree and sign a code of conduct and will be selected based on this agreement. We look forward to your participation!
Key Points About CIT ACA Accredited Programs:
Meaning of ‘CIT’: CIT stands for Counselor-in-Training, a program designed to help older campers prepare to become future camp counselors. CITs receive leadership training, assist with camp activities, and gain insight into camp operations.
ACA Accreditation: The American Camp Association (ACA) is the primary accrediting body for camps in the United States. To earn ACA accreditation, camps must meet strict standards for staff qualifications, safety procedures, and program quality, ensuring a safe, high-quality experience for both campers and staff.
Benefits of an ACA Accredited CIT Program:
- Quality Training : CITs receive structured training in key areas such as group management, activity leadership, safety protocols, and camper care, all under the guidance of experienced staff.
- Leadership Development: CITs gain valuable leadership experience by assisting younger campers, planning activities, and managing group dynamics.
- Career Potential: Completing a respected CIT program can enhance your resume and create opportunities for future roles as a camp counselor or in other leadership positions.
We’re excited to help you build skills for your future while having fun and making memories.
Councilor in Training Fees:
The $100 fee for the summer covers one to three camp shirts, a name tag, and hands-on training. Payment must be made in full by May 1, 2025, along with the completed camper registration packet in order to attend summer camp.
CITs who have paid the fee and are enrolled in the program are eligible to sign up for weekly trip fees ($20 per week or $195 for the entire summer).
