ELECTRICAL UPGRADE PROJECT
The age and condition of the existing electrical grid require an upgrade before we can add any additional electrical components of any size to the system. It’s been a project in the works for several years at a cost of 1.6 million. The construction you see happening on the north side of the facility on Commerce St. will house the new transformers connecting to an improved electrical grid allowing for future installation of new electrical components requiring more power to operate.
UPDATE – May 1, 2026
Components are mostly installed. We’re waiting for the cut over date from Ohio Edison. Several downtown businesses besides the Y will be affected. When this happens, it will be necessary to shut the Y for probably one day to remove the old kettles from the basement as power will be cut.
UPDATE – January 27, 2026
Components are being installed inside the enclosure as weather permits.
