Staffing Updates at the Y

“With the changing of the guard as Beth Scheller begins her President/CEO position, there are more exciting changes coming to the YMCA of Youngstown’s Senior Leadership Team. At this time, the Chief Operating Officer position, which was filled by Beth for the past seven years, will not be hired. Instead, two new positions will be added in its place; VP of Facility Operations, and Director of Talent and Risk Management.

Tom Grantonic will be stepping into the role of VP of Facility Operations. This new position for our association, under the supervision of the CEO, and in collaboration with the Executive Directors and Facility/Maintenance Directors, will provide strategic leadership in facility operations including: maintenance, systems, infrastructure, major equipment purchases, capital projects, and IT, and also securing resources and support for the Annual and Capital Campaigns.

Tom has been with the YMCA of Youngstown for 34 years and has served as the only Executive Director at the Davis Family YMCA. As Tom gets ready to wind down his career in the next couple of years, he will be able to train and mentor the new Executive Director. Tom will move into this role after the new Executive Director is hired and onboarded.

Christine Hughes will be assuming the position of Director of Talent and Risk Management. This is a new title, but essential job functions are what Beth was doing in her role of COO/HR.

This position is responsible for strategic leadership of human resources and risk management at all levels of the organization. Responsible for developing, enforcing, evaluating, and evolving as necessary legally compliant human resource strategies, policies, and procedures to support our Association’s priority of attracting, engaging and retaining staff. Promotes and advances an overall culture of safety in all matters, including Child Abuse Prevention and Aquatic Safety.

Chris has been with the YMCA of Youngstown for 19 years and is currently Senior Aquatic Director. Before Chris transitions into this new role, she will be hiring and onboarding an Aquatic Director.

When you see Tom or Chris, please congratulate them on their new positions!”

SPECIAL EVENTS

Camp Fitch YMCA Polar Bear Plunge

Cost should never be the reason a child cannot attend Camp Fitch YMCA. To turn that mission into reality, Camp Fitch has hosted their annual Polar Bear Plunge for the last 15 years! Staff, alumni, campers, and anyone else who wants to join the cause jump into the icy waters of Lake Erie with the same purpose: to give the life-changing opportunity of camp to kids who would otherwise be unable to afford. All are welcome to join the fun (without any pressure to jump in Lake Erie)! We will have food, games, and raffles for everyone to participate in.
